I. INTRODUCTION
Chesney Consulting has been retained by Ms. Jeanine Burkart and Mr. Amo Gorgasser of
Gorgasser Non-Pro Assistance to complete the requirements of the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department(EHD). The subject property is located at 21000 East Acampo
Road near Clements, California and is currently in ongoing development as a horse stabling,
training and riding lessons facility.
The facility will consist of a covered horse riding arena, stalls and parking. The horse stable will
have a unisex restroom in the southwest comer. Only one toilet and one sink are proposed for this
restroom, to be used by customers and employees. There is a possibility in the future that this
proposed septic system may also serve a mobile home structure for housing two employees.
The EHD requires that a Soil Suitability Study (SSS), which includes appropriate percolation
testing, be conducted for new projects or parcel subdivisions. In the spring of last year,Neil O.
Anderson & Associates (NOA)conducted an SSS for this project (See NOA Report LGS110004).
Several shallow perc tests were conducted by NOA, but no deep (25 ft)pere tests representative of
seepage pits were conducted because NOA claims auger refusal was encountered at 7 ft below
grade. Consequently,no permeability data exists for soils at the deeper depths. It has been my
observation of more than 25 years of drilling in San Joaquin County, that typically there is sandy
material underlying hardpan stratum.
The EHD subsequently decided to allow Ms. Burkart to retain the services of a civil engineer to
design a septic system for their project and forego additional soil testing.
The decentralized wastewater management(septic) system designed for this project is
predominately predicated upon a review of septic permits at the EHD for systems on East Acampo
Road within a one-half mile radius of the property. Review of permits reveal there have been no
replacement or repairs of septic systems on East Acampo Road, thus indicating that the deeper
soils are theoretically managing effluent flows.
II. SEPTIC SYSTEM DESIGN AND OPERATIONAL CRITERIA
A. Septic System Operation Overview
Discussion of the domestic wastewater management system operation and design will begin with
the source of the wastewater from the restroom and continue sequentially to the end of the final
Land
osal of effluent, which will be through two seepage pits. Beginning with the proposed toilet
sink: Domestic water for hand washing and toilet flushing will originate from a domestic well
ted in the southeast part of the property. A five horsepower pump will pump water to a 10,000
on plastic tank located on a hill directly east of the restrooms. This difference in elevation will
ide water pressure to the toilet and sink.
Page -2-
Chesney Consulting
