v
Soil Analytical Results
Preserved soil samples were collected at 5-foot depth intervals during the drilling of
Wells U-1,U-2,and U-3. Selected soil samples were submitted to a certified laboratory
` and analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons calculated as gasoline (TPH gasoline),
total semi- and non-volatile hydrocarbons calculated as diesel (TPH diesel), and
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX compounds) using DHS
LUFr Method. The samples submitted from U-2 were also analyzed for halogenated i
volatile organics by EPA Method 8010. The sampling and analytical procedures
employed are described in Appendix A of this re;ort, and a summary of soil analytical j
results is presented in Table 2. tj
The sample from Boring U-1 at the 5 to 6-1j 2 foot depth was found to contain
1,800 ppm TPH gasoline and 710 ppm TPH diesel. This sample also an-tained 2.7 ppm ;
benzene,52 ppm ethylbenzene, and 66 ppm xylenes. At the 10 to 11-1/2 foot depth in
Boring U-1, only 3.2 ppm TPH diesel was reported. All other parameters were below,
detcc:ticn limits.
The 5 to 6-1/2 foot sample from Boring U-2 contained 1,200 ppm TPH gasoline, i
5.0 ppm diesel, 16 ppm ethylbenzene, and 74 ppm xylenes. Benzene and toluene were
° .,ot detected in U-2 at the S to 6-1/2 foot sample. The U-2 10 to 11-1/2 foot sample
contained no detectable concentrations of TPH gasoline, TPH diesel, or BTEX
compounds. Soil samples from the 5 to 6-1/2 and 10 to 11-1/2 foot depths from U-2
were also analyzed for halogenated volatile organics (EPA Method 8010). None of s
`. these analytes were detected in either of the soil samples from U-2.
The soil samples collected at the S to 6-1/2 and 10 to 11-1/2 foot depths in U-3 were
found to contain 5.2 ppm TPH diesel in the 10 to 11-1/2 foot sample. All other 3
analytes were below detection limits in both samples.
a `
Groundwater Analytical Results r
s
Groundwater samples were collected from Monitoring Wells U-1 through U-3, and
from the site water supply well (WSW-1) during the November 11, 1990, sampling
event. These samples were analyzed for TPH gasoline,TPH diesel,BTEX compounds, y
and halogenated volatile organics (EPA 624) by a State-certified analytical laboratory.
The BTEX concentrations presented in this discussion represent the results of the
EPA 624 analysis, which are higher than the concentrations reported in the EPA
Method 8020 analysis. The results of these analyses are summarized in Table 3.
Groundwater from U-1 contained 140 parts per billion (ppb) TPH gasoline, 19 ppb
benzene, and 3 ppb total xy:enes. Diesel, towene, and ethylbenzene were not detected
in the U-1 water sample. The U-2 water sample contained TP14 gasoline, benzine, and
3100101/REPOR-l' S February 13,1991
`r
