The on-site <br /> water well is currently non-operational and sits idle. Ground water will be developed for domestic <br /> L purposes for the proposed group care facility. <br /> E <br /> 3.0 SOURCES AND IMPACT OF NITRATE TO GROUND WATER <br /> 3.1 Current Off-Site Sources of Nitrate <br /> Septic systems, agriculture, and dairies in the area may be the most significant sources of nitrate in <br /> ground water. Septic tank use in the vicinity is discussed in Section 3.4 was found to relatively high <br /> at 100 septic system per square mile. <br /> Also, an aerial photograph of the area shows large agricultural field exist nearby. Over fertilization <br /> of these agricultural fields in combination with permeable soils and shallow ground water have the <br /> potential-for nitrate leaching into the aquifer. <br /> I' <br /> 3.2 Contribution of Rainfall <br /> An estimate of the quantity and quality of rainfall was required for the nitrate loading analysis. The <br /> estimate of deep perco �n'bf rain is based on the average monthly precipitation of rain fall and <br /> evapotranspiration f Lodi, aliforrnia. The estimate first determines whether the average monthly <br /> precipitation exceedslavev4e monthly potential evapotranspiration. If so, then the difference is <br /> potential deep percolation. This method does not consider runoff. See Plate 9 for the data and <br /> calculation. <br /> Average potential evapotranspiration was obtained from the California Irrigation Management <br /> Information System (CIMIS). Manteca potential evapotranspiration (Eto) was available from CIMIS <br /> agricultural station No. 70 (http://www.cimis.water.ca.gov/cimis/monthlyEToReport.do), The <br /> average rain fall for Manteca was not available at station no. 70. Therefore, Stockton average rain <br /> --s fall was obtained from the San.Joaquin County Soil and was found to be 17.16 average inches per <br /> month for the years 1949 through 1987. <br /> Based on this method, an estimate deep percolation of rain for the Manteca area is estimated to be <br /> 6.15 inches. The nitrate concentration of rain fall was estimated to be 1 mg/L-N (Hantzsche and <br /> + Finnemore, 1992). <br /> 3.3 Current On-Site Sources of Nitrate <br /> There are no current on-site sources of nitrate developed on the site since the site is vacant. <br /> 4 <br />
