i
CHAPTER 6, FACIUTY REQf IREA NTS 3
The Demand-Capacity Analysis indicates the requirement for increased facilities at Stockton
Metropolitan Airport. The recommended modifications and increase in facilities are summarized
herewith:
A. Runways .
1. Runway 11L-29R
From a strength standpoint Runway 11 L-29R will not need an overlay for 12 to
15 years, even with the traffic generated by a low-fare airline entry into the
Stockton market. The porous friction course on this runway is raveling and needs j
to be removed and replaced. Centerline and touchdown zone lights need to be
installed to provide Category IIIIII type operations at the airport, which will
require trenching on the pavement. In order to provide long stage lengths with the
heavily-loaded air cargo facilities, a runway extension beyond the threshold to j
Runway 29R will also be required. Blast walls will be needed on the ends of the !
runway extensions of both Runway 11L and Runway 29R. The early construction
required for Runway 11 L-29R, therefore, includes the following:
• Project I - Construct Extended Safety Area- Runway 29R - 150' x 1,000'
I
• Project 2 - Construct Runway 29R East End Blast Wall
• Project 3 - Construct Runway 11L West End Blast Wall
i
i
• Project 4 - Relocate Localizer Antenna
;r Project 5a - Overlay and Groove Runway I IL-29R - 150' x 8,600' - With
three inches (3") of Asphalt
• Project 5b - Rehabilitate Shoulders - Runway 11L-29R - 35' x 4,200'
Project 5c - Install Runway Centerline and Touchdown Zone Lights
I :
• Project 5d - Replace Runway Edge Light System
• Project 5e - Replace Airfield Guidance Signs
2. Runway. 11 R-29L
Runway 11 R-29L has adequate pavement section to support existing and forecast
traffic for a 20-year design period. This runway will require a maintenance
overlay within approximately 10 years unless the runway is abandoned and
s relocated as shown on the Airport Layout Plan. The construction of the relocated
6-1
