CHAPTER 5. DEMANDCAPACITY ANALYSIS
Based on the forecast potential passenger traffic, aircraft operations, and based aircraft an analysis
has been conducted for the purpose of determining the required airfield development to
accommodate the forecast traffic.
A. Runways
F
Runway'11 L-29R is the major runway with full IFR capability. This runway is currently
150 feet wide by 8,650 feet long with,a'4,000-foot extension beyond the threshold to
Runway l IL. This 1,000 feet cannot be used for landing on Runway I IL because of the
proximity of Arch-Airport Road off the end of the runway. Current activity and forecast
activity for air cargo indicate the need for longer runways in order that long-haul cargo
jet aircraft can operate from this airport without intermediate stops for fuel. The longer
length runway is needed for takeoff. The existing runway is adequate for landing. The
proximity of Highway 99 to the current end of Runway 29R and of Arch-Airport Road
to the threshold of Runway 11L limits the length of this runway without major relocations
of primary roads. By extending the runway 1,000 feet westerly beyond the threshold of
Runway I IL and 1,000 feet easterly beyond the threshold of Runway 29R, longer take-off
distances can be realized and by the use of declared distances cargo aircraft will be able
to operate longer stage lengths from this airport. If these 1,000-foot extensions are
constructed on each end of the runway, then the declared distances for departures from
each runway!will be as shown below:
r. DECLARED,DISTANCES
Runway IIL-29R - Ultimate Runway Development
11 L Departures 29R Departures
TORA 9,600' . 10,037'
TODA 10,600'. 11,037'
ASDA 9,690' 9,701'
LDA 8,690°X 8,701'
k i In order to fully utilize these- declared distances it will be necessary to construct blast
walls beyond the end of each runway extension adjacent to Highway 99 and Arch-Airport
Road to protect vehicular traffic on these roads.
With the forecast increase in aircraft operations at this airport a parallel runway will be
required. The existing parallel runway is only 500 feet centerline to centerline spacing
from the main Runway 11 L-29R. It is recommended that the existing short parallel
runway be abandoned and replaced with.a°new parallel runway located 700 feet centerline
to centerline spacing in order to allow simultaneous operations from the two runways.
It is further recommended that the relocated runway be 100 feet wide by 6,000 feet long
so that commercial turbo jet aircraft can-,utilize this runway on a temporary basis when
maintenance work is being conducted on Runway IIL-29R and so that business jet
aircraft can utilize the short parallel runway and provide relief for the main instrument
runway.
5-1
