Alpine Rd., Lodi, CA <br /> Original report dated July 13, 2009 <br /> Ms. Stonum: <br /> To address the requirements of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department, we <br /> have prepared an addendum to the Nitrate Loading Study we completed for Stonum Vineyards <br /> in 2009. We understand that you plan to construct a new catering kitchen for the tasting room; <br /> the kitchen will be used only for wine club events. The aim of this addendum is to incorporate <br /> the new use numbers into the nitrate loading calculation. <br /> We have also updated the value for the deep percolation of rain to be consistent with current <br /> data. At your request, we have altered the number of bedrooms listed for the existing <br /> residence; you indicated that only two bedrooms are present, rather than the three listed in the <br /> original report. <br /> To assist the reader in following the calculation, we will present a new Nitrate Loading <br /> Calculation in its entirety. Changes from the original report are indicated in bold italics. <br /> NITRATE LOADING CALCULATION AND DISCUSSION <br /> Because of concerns of nitrate leaching into ground water from septic systems, a nitrate loading <br /> analysis was required by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department for <br /> approval of the proposed development. The study estimates the potential concentration of <br /> percolating effluent produced by the proposed project over the long term. Where percolating <br /> effluent leaches into the ground, ground water quality may be impacted to some degree should <br /> the effluent reach ground water. <br /> The method utilized for the nitrate loading analysis is based on a simple and convenient mass <br /> balance formula, discussed in a published article by Hantzsche and Finnemore (1992). <br /> Environmental •.
