f
Ff July 6, 2007
NOA Project Number: E07096A
posed olive mill will have a maximum of e
Thfour employees. We understand that the business
proposed
p
will maintain normal business hours, five days per week. The property also has a two bedroom
residence.
PThe estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references. The
uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site Wliastewater Disposal Standards
F1 (2003), Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and EPA (1980). The references indicate that 14 gallons
for each employee is typical for an office worker and that the typical residential use rate is 70 gallons
per day (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998). The EPA (19 80) Design Manual (Table 4-6) indicates
0 the typical use rate is 45 gallons per day for a resident.
j The following tables presents the septic waste water uses associated with the site. The rates
F F1presented from the references provide general guidance but do not always reflect a match in usage.
- Careful examination, professional judgement, and experience are necessary to select a reasonable
flow rate estimate. The flow rates selected for the uses associated with this project are presented
r next.
Table 1.
Typical Quantity of Effluent
Total People per Average Quantity per Average Daily Flow
1 Category Day Person Per Parcel
Residential 3 70ga1/day/person 3 residents x 70 gpd =210 gpd
Commercial 4 14 gal/day/employee 4 employees x 14 gpd= 56
TOTAL 266 gpd
Note _gpd is gallons per day.
For the subject property, the total waste water flow rate is 266 gallons per day.The average total
nitrogen concentration of domestic waste water is normally considered to be 20-85 mg/L-N with 35
to 45 mg/L-N being typical (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998). It is estimated that commercial use
will have higher concentrations of total nitrogen when compared to residential use. It is estimated
1 that the average concentration for total nitrogen in waste water for the project is approximately
53.42 mg/L-N over the long term. Please see the following table for the weighted average 6-21calculation of total nitrogen concentration..
Table 2.
Weighted Average of Residential / Commerical
Total Nitrogen Concentration
45 mg/L,N x 210 gpd= 9,450 mg/L-gal
85 mg/L-N x 56 gpd =4,760 mg/L-gal
266 gpd 14,210 mg/L-gal
F14,210 m /L- l/ 266 gpd=53.42 m /L-N
! 1 5
