Weber Ave, Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
Subject: Mountain House,Neighborhood G
Abandon Arnaudo Bros.#1 Gas Well
Condor Project No.4125114
Dear Mr.Huggins:
r
Condor has reviewed the documents (attached) from the Resources Agency of California, Department of
Conservation, Division of Oil and Gas (DOG) regarding the Arnaudo Bros. #1 gas well installed by the
.. Union Oil Company of California (Unocal) on Assessor's Parcel Number 209-040-15 as shown on
Figure 1, attached. The well as mapped is slightly north of the planned Mountain House Neighborhood G
subdivision. It is our understanding, based on the attached records, that UNOCAL drilled the Arnaudo
+ Bros. #1 gas well, consisting of one boring with three casings to depths of 50, 960, and 3999 feet below
existing ground surface in early to middle part of 1988 under a Permit to Conduct Well Operations
approved by the DOG. The dry well sanded up when the perforating guns were run on the production
+ string. UNOCAL applied to abandon the well in July of 1988, approved by the DOG, and completed,
including restoring the site to the original condition, in September 1988. The dry well was cemented
from 2856 to 2221 feet, 860 to 580 feet, and 63 feet to ground surface and mudded between those
` intervals. The well casing was removed to five feet below ground surface with a steel cap welded to the
top of casing. The abandonment and restoration was approved in a letter dated May 24, 1989 written by
Robert Reid of the DOG to UNOCAL, attached.
The site is currently being developed by Trimark Communities as part of the Mountain House
Development. Chapter 6, Section 6.8.4, Implementation, Section A of the Mountain House New
Community Master Plan, 1994, attached, states that gas wells within 500 feet of the project should be
+ mapped and a report prepared "so that the County can determine if the County's procedures for well
abandonment and remediation have been followed." Condor submits this letter and the attached
documents containing the approval letter from the DOG for your review and approval of the past
r abandonment of the Amaudo Bros. #1 gas well to San Joaquin County standards for well abandonment.
Condor contacted the DOG for pre-construction recommendations on new construction over or near
i4 previously abandoned gas wells. The DOG recommended following the procedures outlined in their
Construction-Site Review Program, attached to ensure that an abandoned gas well meets the Division's
r
r
