KLEINFELDER
8. CONCLUSIONS
The results of our soil classification boring and soil suitability tests indicate that a
stratum of silty sand underlies the new leach field area from a depth of about 19 to 25
feet that exhibits suitable soil percolation characteristics for disposal p al of waste/septic
flow. The overlying shallow clay did not exhibit suitable soil percolation characteristics.
Based on our previous experience, intermediate silt and clay encountered will most
likely not exhibit suitable soil percolation characteristics. For reference; a suitable soil
stratum is defined by SJCEHD as a soil stratum capable of percolating water at a rate
of 60 minutes per inch (min/inch) within the upper 3.5 feet of site grade or 30 min/inch
` for deeper tests. Accordingly, the new sewage disposal system will
g P Y need to consist of
a leach field employing seepage pits that extend into the silty sand stratum and are
designed in accordance with the San Joaquin County Sewage Standards. The septic
tank for the new disposal system will
P y also need to be sized in accordance with the San
Joaquin County Sewage Standards.
As previously discussed, we calculate 4.73 mg/1 of nitrate-nitrogenen (N) i
n groundwater
resulting from the proposed leach fields, a result that is below the state drinking water
standard of 10 mg/l. Based on this level of nitrate-nitrogen and the depth to
7N, groundwater (greater than 70 feet), we anticipate that the impact on surrounding wells
will be low. Calaveras River is the nearest water body to the site and is located
approximately 700 feet north of the property. Due to the distance to Calaveras River
and the depth and general gradient of groundwater, we anticipate that the impact to
surface water will be low.
9. LIMITATIONS
Kleinfelder has prepared this report in accordance with theenerall ted
g Y accepted
standards of care_that exist in San Joaquin County at the time of writing. It should be
recognized that definition and evaluation of geologic and chemical subsurface
conditions are difficult. Judgments leading to conclusions and recommendations are
generally made with an incomplete knowledge of the subsurface and/or historic
conditions applicable to the site. The conclusions of this report are based on the
information provided regarding the existing and proposed development and on-site
conditions as well as our field observations, percolation test results, and experience in
the project area. It was'assumed that the percolation test results are representative of
the subsurface conditions in the general area.
