t
t
February 3, 2005 -
? NOA Project Number: E040116A
DBCP is a nematocide and soil fumigant for.vegetables and grapes. It is thought to cause health
problems consisting of kidney damage, liver damage, and cancer. The use of DBCP was
discontinued in 1979. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) set the maximum contaminant
limit {MCL) at 0.2 parts per billion (ppb) because the EPA believes that given present technology
and resources, this is the lowest level to which water systems can reasonably be required to remove
this contaminant should it occur in drinking water.
4.5 Well Water Sample Collection, Handling, and Transportation
The samples were collected in a clean plastic container, then decanted into clean, glass vials. The
p ,
i samples were then transported on ice and remanded under chain of custody to Precision Enviro-
Tech, Stockton.
4.6 Chain of Custody
1
The Chain of Custody document has been included in the appendix of this report. The chain of
custody indicated the project name is Edwards property. The laboratory analytical results for the
project name was checked and found to be mislabeled.
5.0 SOIL PROFILE AND GEOLOGIC INFORMATION
F1The Site is depicted on-the Geologic Map of the San Francisco - San Jose Quadrangle, California
(1991), as within a region of Quaternary Fan Deposits. The unit is one of gravel, sand, silt and clay;
outwash from the nearby mountains (Plate 7).
The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the San Joaquin County Soil Survey
to be composed of Capay clay, 0.-2% slopes (Plate 8) (USDA, 1992). Table 3 presents some selected
Fiproperties of the soil:
Table 3.
San Joaquin County Soil Survey—
F1Selected Soil Properties of On-Site Soils.
Soil Name Depth Unified Soil Classification Salinity Soil Perme- Septic tank
and Map (in) mmhos/c Reaction ability absorption
Symbol in pH (in/hr) fields
Cspay Clay, 0-20: Clay:CH,CL <2 6,6-8.4 0.06-0.2 Severe:peres
0-2%slopes, 20-60: Clay,silty clay:CL,CF f <2 6.6-8.4 0.06-0,2 slowly,.
718.
Note:The table descriptions do not necessarily reflect site-specific soil properties.
Fi
6
