It is our understanding that the San Joaquin County Fater Policy states that
residential (donicrtic)wetter use for a project must not exceed the current agricultural water use
over the subject area.
City of Tracy standards indicate the average household uses approximately one-hM F acre-feet of
water per year(162,926 gallons'), The L' a Estates project will consist of an average of 2.12
homes per acre over the project area 91.8 crpc for approxi mately 195 homes. 'Faking 145
homes x 162.926 gallons=31,770,5 ga or 97.5 acre-feet of water use per year.
O the project's ell.8 acres, all but 4.5 acres are in walnuts and apricots. According to the
University of California Irrigation Manugl, walnuts use a total yearly amount of 42 incites of
irrigation water and-stone fruit such as apricots use 1 8.5 inches of water.per year. The total
volume of irrigation water, using an average oF40 inches(3-1fly over the 87.3 acres currently
farmed in walnuts and apricots=873 acres x 3.3 ft x 325,851 gallonslay-ft=93,874,415 gallons,
or 288.1 acre-teet of water. `
5
Therefore, the current agricultural water use over the Lnne Estates project area is approximately
three times the proposed domestic usc.
Rcspc;ctfully subruiacd, I C r
VALLEY Ag RESEARCH
t
Don Chesney t
Registered Environmental Assessor#4675
Licensed Civil Engineer InICm#XE96643
r
