f
September 9,2005
NOA Project Number: E65110A
5.4 Discussion of Soil Lithology
A visual inspection of the shallow and deep soils-from on-site drilling indicates some potential for
percolation because of the silty nature of the soils. A percolation test is the best method to
determine the suitability-of-the soils for a septic disposal area. Please see the next section for:
percolation test results. -Generally speaking; sandy soils have much greater potential for percolation
than'fine-grained or cemented soils..-
6.0
oils. .6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION
6.1 Percolation Test Locations
A`site map indicating the locations of the percolation test holes is included as Plate.l in the appendix {p.)l
of this report..-
6.2 Number of Percolation Tests.
One shallow and one dee percolation test was conducted on the subject property. 4)
P
6.3 Boring Preparation and Presaturation'
One shallow and one deep soil boring were advanced on the subject property with the a truck-
, mounted deep tock augur rig on August 25, 2005.
A 1.5-inch diameter PVC-pipe with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the..drop of
water in the percolation test boring. -Approximately 2 inches of"pea gravel" were placed in.the
-- bottom of the open soil boring, then the PVC pipe was installed on top of the gravel. "Pea Gravel"
was then used to backfill in the annular space. 3
Presaturation of the percolation test holes occurred on August 25, 2005. The depth of water used to
pre-soak was 12 inches above the bottom of the boring.
' 6.4 Condition of Borings After Presaturation.
After the 24-hour soak period, the presaturated.holes were found to be intact on August 26, 2005. 01;7i
The shallow hole_was dry and the deep hole contained crater at a depth of 22.85 feet.
6.5 Percolation Test Procedure
Percolation tests were conducted for the borings on August 26, 2005 in accordance with the
requirements of the EHD. A percolation test with a duration of four hours was performed for each
