MCLEOD PROPERTY
Page No. 3
of nitrates was well below the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL)
allowed by law.
VI. SOIL PROFILE AND PERCOLATION TESTS
Two, 10 foot deep test holes were excavated by hand in the
area of the existing and proposed homesite in order to determine
the soil profiles in the general area. For approximate location of
the test holes (PT) see the Parcel Map in the Appendix. The tests
holes were logged by a civil engineer and a description of the
soils encountered in each test hole is contained in the Appendix.
The soils varied slightly between the two sites. The shallow
percolating stratum at the existing homesite is a sandy silt and
the shallow percolating stratum at the proposed homesite on the
Designated Remainder property is a sandy clayey silt. The clay
content at the second test location is reflected in a slower
percolation rate.
Two 36 inch deep by 8 inch diameter test hole were excavated
by hand adjacent to the soil profile holes for performing shallow
percolation tests. Two inches of gravel was placed in the bottom
of each hole. A 3 inch diameter perforated pipe was then placed in.
each hole and backfilled with gravel. Both holes were filled with
water 24 hours prior to running the tests. The last half hour of
the tests readings were witnessed by a county health official and
the test data obtained is enclosed in the appendix. The
percolation rates have been adjusted to account for the gravel and
pipe backfill . Calculations for adjustments are on the test data
sheets.
A summary of the test results is presented next:
Diameter of Depth of
Test No. Hole (in. ) Hole (in. ) Percolation Rate min in
PT-1 8 36 3 . 3
PT-2 8 36 11.5
VII CONCLUSION
Based on the results of the shallow percolation tests, the
soil profile, and the performance of the septic systems in the
surrounding area, it is our opinion that both the existing and
proposed homesites resulting from the proposed parcel split should
IDERSG
N
P
so G
