I
5 I
southeast were observed during January 1995 (Figure 2). Ground-water depths and elevations
measured in all wells during the four quarters of monitoring are presented in Table 1
I
i
n
In comparison to the shallow wells, ground-water levels in the deep wells were deeper and
fluctuated more throughout 1994, presumably in response to pumping of those and/or nearby deep
irrigation and production wells during that time. The static water levels in the Petz irrigation
well fluctuated approximately 10 feet during 1994 with the lowest observed level in October 1
(Figure 3). Static water levels in the South Tracy #1 production well fluctuated at least 35 feet
during 1994 and a pumping level observed in March was 75 feet below the lowest static water
level (Figure 4).
I
n
A static water level was measured in the Brown's #1 production well only in January 1995; the
I
water level was well below shallow ground-water levels. During the other three quarters of 1994,
the well was being pumped when water level measurements were conducted; and the pumping
levels were deeper than the Iength of the sounder (an airline is no longer installed in this well).
Measurement of the water level in the Ponderosa and Brown's New production wells has not
been possible due to blocked airlines.
i
n
The ground-water elevations and fluctuations observed during the first year of monitoring
illustrate the difference between the shallow and deep zones beneath the monitoring network area. it
In-the shallow wells, ground-water elevations ranged from 76 to $d feet MSL across the area with
n
generally less than two feet of seasonal fluctuation, indicating the upper zone (above the
confining clay) is an unconfined or "water table" aquifer. Alternatively, in the deep wells (i.e.,
those completed below the base of the confining clay, which is at an approximate elevation. of 75
E^ feet below mean sea level), static ground-water elevations ranged from 17 feet below mean sea
level to 30 feet MSL across the area with as much as 35 feet of fluctuation, indicating the lower
zone is a confined aquifer and that a downward vertical gradient exists between the upper and
lower zones.
i
© LIJHQDRF-F & SCAI_MANINI i
GUNS U 1.TING ENGINEE R S 4E
F
