Introduction I In 1994, in order to satisfy the ground-water related conditions of Permit No. QX-91-5 issued by San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division in late 1992, Teichert Aggregates retained i Luhdorff and Scalmanini, Consulting Engineers (LSCE) to establish and monitor a network of I wells for ground-water Ievels and quality in the vicinity of the Teichert Vernalis plant (Figure i). The objective of the monitoring program, as presented in the permit, was to document the status of ground-water conditions within the greater perimeter of the permitted mining area; ground water was to be monitored on a quarterly basis and results reported on an annual basis. The area monitored in this program encompasses the six permitted parcels and extends three miles north to I south from Kenner Road to the intersection of Interstates 5 and 580 and extends two miles west k to east from Bird Road to Koster Road. The monitoring program was initiated in March 1994 and has included four years of ground-water quality sampling and analysis, specifically for E general minerals, nitrate, and total coliform bacteria, and ground-water level measurements at { 1 approximately three month intervals during 1994 through early 1998. i I A network of water supply wells in the surrounding area, including the Vernalis plant production well and neighbors' irrigation and domestic wells, was established in early 1994. The network I ,n wells are completed in the alluvial aquifer at varying depths. The data collected from the network are facilitating the characterization of the ground-water level and quality fluctuations prior to any mining operations, and will allow for detection of any impacts on the aquifer during I future mining operations. Since March of 1994, water levels have been measured and water quality tested in the network wells on a quarterly basis. The resultant data are presented in this report to describe pre-mining ground-water conditions in the vicinity of the Vernalis plant. The report is organized as follows: a description of the monitoring network; presentation and description of tables and hydrographs depicting ground-water levels and quality in individual wells through time; and presentation and description of ground-water elevation contour maps for selected periods.
