United States Geological Survey. With USGS staff, initiated and coordinated the design and
implementation of field research in four geographic areas of California to collect tissues and nest site
samples from breeding White-tailed Kites, chicks, prey species, and vegetation.
Fil
Puaiohi Project Field Assistant. United States Geological Survey: Biological Resources Division.
Alakai Swamp, Kaua'i. As part of a small team, conducted ecological research on the Puaiohi
F (Myadestes palmeri); an endangered endemic thrush, whose reintroduction was funded through The
Peregrine Fund. Assisted in monitoring nest success and nest habitats (GIS), banding birds, collecting
behavioral observations, trapping non-native mammals, and surveying remote regions on the swamp
f for endemic avifauna.
Research Assistant. Center for Ecological Health Research and Center for Avian Biology. University j
[; of California, Davis. Through this multidisciplinary project at UC Davis, designed and performed i
laboratory experiments on thedevelopmental and behavioral effects of pesticides (regulated under
FIFRA and RCRA) on captive Zebra finch (Taeniopygia guttata). Managed a captive breeding colony
of X200 Zebra Finches. Conducted behavioral tests and evaluate histological samples of brain and
gonad tissues. Also collected toxicological data from eggs and
developed a Geographic Information System (GIS) database on nest boxes, land use, productivity,
and heavy metal levels measured in our study birds. I worked cooperatively and extensively with
farmers to enhance farmland habitats and erect nest boxes for kestrels and Barn Owls (Tyto alba).
■> Research Assistant. U.S. E.P.A. Center for Ecological Health Research. University California, Davis.
Initiated, managed, and completed ecological studies of White-tailed Kites in Yolo and Solano
Fit counties. Recruited, supervised, and mentored numerous undergraduate research assistants.
Surveyed, mapped, and monitored nests, and communal roosts over 5 years.
_ Field Assistant. Oregon State University, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Hart Mountain
National Antelope Refuge, Oregon. Assisted in capturing and radio-tracking Sage Grouse
(Centrocercus urophasianus) hens to monitor nest success, identify predators, and quantify habitat
characteristics. Quantified vegetative structure and diversity in the high desert.
■, Environmental Specialist. Hillmann Environmental. Voorhees, N. J. Organized and maintained
databases on project contracts. Routinely reviewed asbestos abatement reports and produced
contracts for Land Transfer Investigations. Conducted field work in asbestos hazard assessment. i
■ Legislative Intern. N.J. Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Legislation.
