9
i
IV. Summary
:n
In summary, the quarterly ground-water monitoring conducted during the last three years has
provided the data with which to characterize pre-mining ground-water conditions beneath the
Teiehert parcels and adjacent areas. The observed static ground water levels ranged in depth
from 75 feet in shallow wells to the north, to 250 feet in deep wells in the central and southeast
portions of the area. Shallow ground water typically fluctuated less than three feet through the
monitoring period and consistently flowed toward the southeast. Deep ground-water levels were
in lower and fluctuated more than shallow levels, apparently in response to pumping of local deep
irrigation and production wells. Ground water within the greater perimeter of the permitted
mining area has elevated hardness and EC values. The general mineral quality varied with depth:
,. shallow ground water was of a sodium/calcium bicarbonate/chloride quality while deep ground
water was of a sodium/calcium bicarbonate/sulfate quality. There are elevated nitrate
concentrations in the shallow and deep ground-water zones that appear to be indicative of
historical agricultural land use in the area. Coliform bacteria testing identified the presence of the
n
bacteria in one domestic well approximately two and one-half years ago; subsequent disinfection
of the well structure and surface facilities have successfully eliminated the bacteria.
n
n
F
n
© LUHI]QFIFF SCALMANINI
'n -
CONSULTING ENGINEERS
{
