4. WASTE
Mine Waste: Fines remain in the pond. When the pond can no longer hold any more
f ; fines, a new pond is created in an area where excavation has been completed. This
allows the former pond to dry up and be reclaimed, while excavation begins in a new area.
Hence, an area is actively mined, then becomes a pond, is filled with sediments, dries out,
and gets reclaimed. Reclamation is therefore successive and continuing within each
phase.
Septic Waste
A septic tank, installed and operated under permit to San Joaquin County, services the
plant site.
Storm Drainage
Plant Site
All drainage at the plant site is internal, reporting to a central sump. Water from the sumpis returned to the process-waters stem.
y Excess run-off is discharged to the process water
pond.
Excavation Area
Since the excavation areas and processing plant are below the grade of Hospital Creek
storm water cannot discharge to Hospital 9 p Creek. All excavation areas are internally
draining. Fine silt and clayey material wasted in the washing and screening activities
comprise approximately 17%-25% of the total product. Fines generated are settled out in
the recycle pond. A coagulant and a flocculant are used in the recycle stream
greatly enhances the capability of the recycle pond to effectively settle-out these fines.
D. Size
1.
