The den transect search during the August portion of the SJKF
survey presented an excellent opportunity to search for the coast
r horned lizard. However, none were seen, and it may be that the
dense gravel substrate which found throughout the project site is
.. not conducive to rapid burying which horned lizards rely on for
- retreat.
F. Sensitive Plant/Insect Survey
f No specimens of the large-flowered fiddleneck were observed
anywhere on the project site . This species prefers upland
hillside sites, and none are present on the project area. No
specimens of any Sambucus (elderberry) species were observed,
thus negating the possibility that the valley elderberry long
horn beetle may reproduce on this site.
-' SUMIARY OF FINDINGS: ADDITIONAL SPECIAL STATUS SPECIES SURVEYS
The three California Species of Special Concern which were
documented on the project site (burrowing owl, prairie falcon,
northern harrier) were all observed in the area of the cattle
pond near the western border of the property. In addition
several special status species which could not be surveyed for
during time span of the study (western spadef cot toad, vernal
pool invertebrates) would, if present, most likely occur within
the flood plain of Hospital Creek.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS AND SUGGESTED MITIGATION MEASURES
This section uses the following criteria for determining the
level of significance of an environmental impact. An impact was
considered significant if it would:
substantially affect a special-status plant or animal species
or the species' habitat;
* interfere substantially with the movement of any resident:
wildlife species;
* substantially affect, reduce the number of, or restrict the
range of an endangered or threatened species of animal, of the.
a :habitat of such a species;
substantially diminish the acreage or values of local habitat,
for native wildlife or plant species;
* deteriorate existing wildlife habitat, both on and adjacent
to the site;
* adversely affect significant riparian lands, wetlands, or
other natural wildlife habitats;
* result in filling of jurisdictional wetlands; or
* reduce the acreage of any agricultural crop that serves as
valuable foraging or nesting habitat.
I ; 15
ti. .
