y
..n en?Ployee named c'or,ri.ar;r
File No. 302.18
August 23, 2001
Mr. Randy Roget
Stockton Wholesale Lumber Co., Inc.
P.O. Box 8006
Stockton, CA 95208
Subject: SOILS SUITABILITY TESTING
2900 .BOZZANO ROAD
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Dear Mr. Roget:
As requested, Kleinfelder has completed our soil suitability (percolation) testing for the subject
project site. On August 15, 2002, we explored the subsurface conditions within the proposed
leach field area by drilling one boring to a depth of about 25 feet below existing site grade. The
boring was drilled using a Simco 2400 truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 4-inch O.D. solid-
stem auger.. Once the boring was complete, we installed three percolation tests near the boring at
depths of about 3.2, 9.5 and 25 feet below site grade.
Based on our findings, the subsurface soils encountered consisted predominately of sandy clay to
a depth,of about 7.5 feet below site grade, underlain by clayey silt with sand to a depth of about 9
feet. These soils were underlain by silty sands to a depth of about 12 feet, followed by
interbedded clayey silts, sandy clays, and silty clays to the depth explored. Groundwater was not
encountered.
I
The percolation tests were performed in accordance with accepted guidelines using clear potable
water. The procedure calls for first.placing about 2 inches of fine gravel at the bottom of the
bore hole, installing a perforated PVC casing, and then placing additional gravel. The holes were
then pre-soaked with water at least 24 hours prior to performing the tests. The tests are:
performed by first adding a head of water to the test holes. From a fixed reference point, the
drop in water level was measured in approximate 30-minute intervals, refilling as necessary to.
maintain the original head of water over the gravel. Under the observation of a sanitarian from
the San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) department, the last 30-minute reading }
at test locations P-1 and P-2 was recorded and used to calculate the percolation rate in minutes
per inch. At our request, the sanitarian did not observe the final test reading at test location P-3
since an adequate percolation test result was obtained at a depth of 9.5 feet (P-2), and we did not .
want to incur fees for permitting an additional test. The estimated percolation rates at each test
i
1
30218/ST02R4)2 August 23,2002
©2002 Kleinfelder, ]nc.
