It should be noted that the tasks outlined below, in conjunction with related
research-and consultations, will establish the cultural resources data baseline and serve to
facilitate assessments of potential impacts to significant cultural resources in the EIR. No
standalone report is proposed as part of this effort.
MBA will request a cultural resource record search from the Central California
Center(CCIC) located at Stanislaus State University in Turlock, California. Inforfmationr will
include current inventories of the National Register of Historic Places (NRNP), the California
Register of Historical Resources (CRHR), the California Historical Landmarks list (CHI_), and I
the California Points of Historical Interest list (CPHI). In addition, the California State
Historic Resources Inventory (HRI)for San Joaquin County will be reviewed as will any
historic maps, which include the Project area.
E
MBA will contact the Native American Heritage Commission (NAHC) in Sacramento and
request a search of their Sacred Lands File_ The search results will aid our understanding
of the proposed project site but should not be construed as meeting the new requirements
set forth iii SB 18 for tribal consultation.
A MBA Archaeologist will conduct a pedestrian survey of the mining footprints using transect
intervals of 15 meters (50 feet)where feasible. During the survey, information concerning y
extant prehistoric and historic resources will be assessed and the general topography,
geology, vegetation density, and other pertinent information will be noted. The pedestrian
survey will serve to determine the presence/absence of cultural resources within the
proposed Project boundaries in addition to determining if there are historic structures in
close enough proximity to be impacted by Project development.
This Work Plan assumes that no significant prehistoric or historic resources will be found i
within the project site. if cultural resources are discovered during the survey and are
considered significant resources in terms of CEQA criteria, the client will be notified so that
they will be recorded on Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) forms, as appropriate.
This step, if necessary, will require a separate scope of work and a budget amendment, to
be approved in advance.
MBA will identify any potential environmental impacts, significant or otherwise associated
with mining of the property and-all other associated activities. This analysis will follow the
methods in per the CEQA Guidelines.
i
