Letter from the State of California, Native American Heritage
Commission, William Johnson, dated November 8, 1988.
1. This information is acknowledged. As a condition of project
approval the County should require that if artifacts or unusual
amounts of charcoal, bone, or shell are uncovered during
construction, the work be halted within 100 feet of the find and a
qualified archaeologist be consulted for an on-site evaluation of
the find. If human skeletal remains are discovered during any
phase of construction, California law would require that the
County Coroner be contacted. If the remains are determined to be
U Native American origin, the Native American Heritage Commission
should be informed to assist in protecting the remains.
d
!
G
f
13
40
