Cascade Energy Storage, LLC Battery Storage Project
be used at the proposed project. These inverters are unattended, standalone units that operate in all
conditions. They operate in both a charge and discharge mode. They are UL listed for bi-directional use and
are monitored and controlled remotely. There would be on-site disconnects in the case of an emergency or
unscheduled maintenance. In the case of any grid disturbance on PG&E's side, the inverters would not
operate until they are remotely turned back on or the grid instability is stabilized for a length of time. In the
discharge mode, they are turned on remotely and controlled by internal circuitry and power control software
at the facility. They are robust in their design and are designed to last more than 30 years.
Solar Photovoltaic Panels
The possibility of installing solar PV on top of the battery containers will be a consideration in the project
design. These panels will produce energy to feed the auxiliary loads of the project which include primarily
HVAC and lighting. The panels will be installed directly on top of the battery building and will be placed flat
or with a slight tilt.
Project Access Roads
Access routes to the battery storage project are still being evaluated, at this time there are a few under
consideration:
• Potential Access Road "1" off of Carpenter Road at 2842 Carpenter Road shared easement with
landowner.
• Potential Access Road "2" off of Carpenter Road at 2842 Carpenter Road propose construct new
driveway approach and gravel type road behind residences owned by landowner.
• Potential Access Road "3" off of Pock Lane, propose to construct gravel type road on existing PG&E
easement.
Fire Department Access and Fire Suppression Improvements
The Fire Department will be allowed access to the site by a Knox Box with entry from either Pock Lane or
Carpenter Road.
The facilities will be outfitted with fire suppression equipment to meet or exceed applicable fire safety codes
and standards. Fire protection measures will include prevention, suppression, isolation methods and
materials. At a minimum, this will include:smoke/fire detection sensors;ground fault detection, alarms, and
systems for automatic shutdown of all cooling fans and opening of electrical contacts in the battery system;
and systems for automatic release of a fire suppression agent appropriate to the battery technology.
Typically, such systems use a clean fire suppression agent such as DuPont's FE-25, FM-200, 3M's Novek 1230,
or Fireaway's Stat-X designed specifically for electrical installations to reduce damage to uninvolved
equipment. Additional information on proposed fire suppression systems will be provided upon submittal of
the full Site Approval application.
In addition to fire suppression improvements Cascade Energy Storage plans on using batteries that are UL
Certified and include built-in fail safes designed specifically to prevent thermal runaway and the spread of
fire.
Page 7
