San Joaquin County May 26, 1998
SU-97-1 Page 2
If fireplaces are proposed, natural gas fireplaces or EPA-certified wood burning
fireplaces/stoves should be installed in every unit that has a fireplace. Conventional
open-hearth fireplaces should not be permitted.
♦ If transit service is available to the project site, improvements should be made to
encourage residents to use it. If transit service is not currently available, but is
planned for the future, appropriate easements should be reserved to provide for
future improvements such as bus turnouts, loading areas, and shelters.
♦ Sidewalks and bikepaths should be installed throughout as much of the project as
possible and should be connected to any nearby open space areas, parks, schools,
commercial areas, etc.
Additionally, the construction phase of this project can generate emission from the
movement of soil, use of heavy equipment, bulk materials handling, asphalt paving and
other related activities. As a result, this project is subject to District Regulation Vlll
(Fugitive Dust Prohibitions). The purpose of Regulation VI11 is to reduce the amount of
fine particulate matter (PM-10) entrained into the ambient air from man-made sources.
The attached Synopsis highlights many of the requirements contained within Regulation
VIII. The Synopsis is not meant to be all inclusive, but it can be a useful compliance aid
in the field and office alike_
Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
