Background The subject site has been in continuous operation as a service station and truck stop since the 1930's. In N4�of 1998 four registered underground storage tanks and associated piping and dispensers were removed from the site in preparation for site redevelopment. During the course of this work, three distinct levels of gas stations were discovered. Four additional underground storage tanks which were installed in 1930's were discovered along with extensive piping. Due to the extent of the previously unknown tanks and piping, a locator was brought to the site to search for further tanks and piping. All of the tanks and piping are now believed to be removed. This covered several acres in area. At each location where piping and/or tanks were discovered there was evidence of hydrocarbon affected soil. This was sampled and the results of all of the sampling and laboratory analysis as well as the description of the work done to date, including some corrective action work, is included in the Report of Tank Removal a copy of which was previously sent on December 10, 1998. A summary of the sample results is included as Table 1. The property was acquired, by the present property owner, in 1979. As a small business owner he is expected to be eligible under Category B for Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund (State Fund) assistance in corrective action for this site. Once the corrective action plan has been agreed to and is under way the planned use for the site is to construct a new service station/truck stop utilizing above ground storage tanks.
