Report:Groundwater-quality Monitoring—October 25,2002: 7500 West Eleventh Street, Tracy, CA. Page 15
3.0 FUTURE ROUNDS OF GROUNDWATER SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS
The next round of groundwater sampling and analysis is scheduled for January 2003. SJC
3 recommends, assuming that the issue related to the unidentified compounds apparently
present in the groundwater in Monitoring Wells MW-3A, MW-3B and MW-12A on
October 25, 2002 is resolved by that time, that those three deep monitoring wells be
closed by grouting following that sampling round. That action would reduce the very
significant risk that groundwater in the deeper aquifer may become contaminated by
r..
spills occurring on the surface at the former fueling station, which continues to attract a
< lot of commercial truck traffic to the restaurant and the large parking area on the
property. It is also the site of a heavy p p y- vehicle maintenance facility.
SJC has further recommended that redundant Well MW-8 be closed by grouting and that
the frequency of groundwater-quality monitoring be reduced to two rounds per year (The
San Joaquin Company 2002b). To match the local cycle of rising and falling groundwater
in the shallow aquifers beneath the site, which cycle is controlled by regional agricultural
irrigation practices, SJC recommends that rounds of groundwater sampling and analysis
be conducted in late February and mid September of each year.
The actions recommended above would also reduce unnecessary expenditures that are
defrayed by the Underground Storage Tank Fund.
 1
SJC
}
