Work Plan for Refined Plume Definition and Management of Floating Product-7500 W 11th St., Tracy, CA. Page 47
9.4 Floating Product Remediation Technologies Considered
In preparing this work plan, SJC considered three alternate technologies for remediation of
floating product that is known to be present in an area around Monitoring Well MW-7,
which, as is shown of Figure 4, is located on the northern shoulder of West Eleventh Street
+ across from the 7500 West Eleventh Street property, close to the intersection of that highway
iy with Chrisman Road.
p In evaluating the alternate approaches for removal of LNAPL from the water table (in
addition to the design issues. detailed in Section 9.3), SJC has considered their technical
effectiveness, their capital cost and the estimated total operating cost from the time of
installation until all floating product has been successfully removed. In each case, the
advantages and disadvantages of the technology have been considered in the context of the
> estimated distribution and total recoverable volume of LNAPL that must be removed from
the subsurface. As discussed in Section 5.0, although it is difficult to make a quantitative
estimate of that volume, the site characterization and groundwater-quality monitoring
A programs completed to date indicate that it is on the order of several thousand gallons.
L The three technologies considered are described in Sections 9.4.1 9.4.2 and 9.4.3 below.
1 ,
Note:
In each case, a preliminary design for implementation of the technology at the
7500 West Eleventh site has been developed. Those designs are sufficient for
proof of concept purposes and preparation of engineer's cost estimates. However,
they are not final designs.A final design of the technology selected for installation
will be undertaken after initial data from the floating-product monitoring wells
described in Section 8.0 is available. Final designs of the subsurface portions of
the systems, such as the locations of extraction wells or the dimensions of cut-off
trenches, will be adapted to meet site-specific conditions as revealed by synthesis
of all data available at the time they are installed, including criteria derived by
application of the Observational Method(Peck 1969).
w
SJC
