Wastewater Volume Flow Projections <br /> Several variables are involved in estimating wastewater flows from a facility. Wastewater flow <br /> volume projections for facilities in unsewered areas have been historically and typically calculated <br /> under numerous guidelines and scenarios, as illustrated in the following list: <br /> 1. Published Data in the San Joaquin County Sewage Standards and scientific literature. <br /> 2. Number of bathroom fixtures (bathroom use per capita) for a facility. <br /> 3. Number of parking spaces for a facility. <br /> 4. Maximum number of people (e.g., employees, customers, etc.) for a facility. <br /> 5. Historical wastewater flow data from an existing facility. <br /> I. The San Joaquin County Sewage Standards assigns 15 gallons per person for Industrial Buildings <br /> with no food cafeteria. It is estimated that 23 people will - <br /> 2. The number of bathroom fixtures (toilets)is proposed to be seven for the entire,built-out complex. <br /> The Sewage Standards assign 150 gallons per toilet fixture (employee/public use). There will be <br /> seven toilets total. <br /> 3. Parking spaces would not be applicable for this type of project since it is assumed that each vehicle <br /> would have an indeterminable number of people per vehicle. <br /> Based on the above criteria, and taking into consideration that the number of employees/customers <br /> for all of the on-site businesses is.unknown and indeterminable, a wastewater flow volume <br /> composed of an average between the number of toilet fixtures and the estimated number of people <br /> on-site will be used for calculation and design parameter purposes: <br /> 7 toilets after complete build-out x 150 gallons/toilet/day= 1050 gallons per day. <br /> Borges Diesel Electric: 1 Employee, 2 Customers <br /> Oliveri Cabinet Shop: 5 Full-Time Employees, 2 Part-Time, 0 Customers <br /> Accurate Delivery Systems: 3 Full-Time Employees,4 Delivery People, 0 Customers <br /> Unknown Future Tenants (Projected): 3 Full Time, 3 Customers 39S <br /> TOTAL: 23 people x 15 gal/day= 345 gallons/day <br /> 1050 gallons/day k 345 gallons/day= 1395 2 = 700 gallons/day 3 <br /> Wastewater Characteristics <br /> Primary wastewater constituents-of-concern found in septic tank effluent have influence over two <br /> important factors in the operation of an on-site wastewater disposal system: Soil effluent <br /> acceptance rates and nitrate-nitrogen impact. The Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) test is the <br /> most common test used in wastewater analysis, but can be unreliable for determining organic <br /> matter in water. BOD is the amount of oxygen, expressed as mg/L-or ppm, that bacteria take from <br /> water when they oxidize organic matter. To determine BOD, oxygen the bacteria uses is <br /> calculated by comparing the amount left at the end of 5 days with the known amount at the <br /> beginning.
