DETENTION TIME EXAMPLE:
Detention,Time = 3,2O0 gal tank capacitycqpacity x 0.70 30%volume lost to sludge/scum accumulation
1.5 (Peaking factor) x 1050 gals/day(worst-case flow volume)
Detention Time = 1.4 days. The minimum acceptable detention time is 1.0 day.
3S
DESIGN AND OPERATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS
One-2,000 gallon conventional dual compartment septic tank with comminutor pump and alarm system(existing)
One- 1,200 gallon conventional single compartment septic tank (to be installed)
Filtration from 2,000 gallon septic tank to 1,200 gallon pump chamber tank (EHD Requirement)
The existing pump will be moved to the existing septic tank that serves the north building (ADS
Delivery).' Effluent from this tank will be pumped to the existing 2,000 gallon tank next to Oliveri
Cabinets.,
u
A new duplex pump system (EHD Requirement)with an Orenco BioTube® Filter Vault will be
installed in the new 1,200 pump chamber. Since the Orenco pump requirements will only allow 32
gpm, the pumps will alternatively activate back and forth. Correspondingly, one pump will dose
"on-demand" approximately 100 gallons to one-half of the filter bed, and the other.pump will dose
the other half of the bed. This will require two - 2 inch PVC transport lines to the filter bed. One
flowmeter will be installed on one of the transport lines. The total effluent volume dosed to the filter
bed can be calculated by multiplying this reading by 2.
Monitoring of effluent with monitoring ports or wells within, or on the perimeter of the filter bed
area. Observation tubes: 4" PVC Tee at soil/effluent interface with 4" riser extending above the
soil/grass,surface by at least 1.0 foot, with a screw type cap. (EHD Requirement).
As-Builts of entire system after installation(EHD Requirement)
Laterals: Sch. 40 PVC 1.00" nominal diameter, 1/8" orifice directed at 12 o'clock, 4.0 ft spacing„ 50
ft long
Orifice Discharge Rate: 118" with 5'residual head= 0.41 gpm
50 ft -4.0 ft = 13 orifices/lateral x 0.41 gpm/orifice= 5.3 gpm/lateral
Network Discharge Rate R = 12 laterals x 5.3 gpm/lateral= 64 gpm-2 = 32 gpm for each
pump.
Manifold=2" Sch. 40 PVC
Total Dose Volume (TDV) from both pumps:
0.041 gals/ft x 50 ft x 12 laterals=25 gals x 5 times lateral void volume= 123 gals
2" x 40 ft,manifold= 0.163 gals/ft x 40 ft=6.5 gals
Transport line =2" =0.163 gals/ft x 360 ft= 59 gals
123 + 6.5 + 59 = 189 gals/dose_ 64 gpm = 3 min/dose
700 gpd (talc. on Pg. 9) - 189 gals/dose = 3.7 doses/24 hr period
14
Chesney Consulting
