III. NITRATE LOADING STUDY FINDINGS
The Nitrate Loading Study findings will be discussed in the following sequential categories:
1.)Projected wastewater flow volumes from the Temple Bathrooms and Kitchen.
2.) Anticipated wastewater characteristics.
3.)Nitrate loading to the groundwater underlying the Temple.
4.) The Conclusions and Recommendations Section.
A. WASTEWATER FLOW PROJECTIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
WASTEWATER FLOW VOLUME PROJECTIONS
A number of variables are involved in estimating wastewater Average Daily Flows (ADF).
Wastewater flow volume projections for facilities in unsewered areas of San Joaquin County',have
been historically and typically calculated under one or more of the following guidelines:
1. Data published in the San Joaquin County Sewage Standards.
2. Data published in the scientific literature.
3. Number of bathroom fixtures for a facility, leading to calculated bathroom use per capita.
4. Number of parking spaces for a facility.
5. Anticipated maximum number of people, on-site.
6. Historical wastewater flow data from an existing or comparable facility.
The following list of flow projection determinations describe the rationale for arriving at the
anticipated average daily effluent flow volumes from the Gurudwara Sahib Tracy Sikh Temple:
1. The San Joaquin County Sewage Standards assigns 10 gallons per person for a
Church/Temple with a Kitchen, and 5 gallons per person for a Church/Temple without a
kitchen. Consequently, the additional 5 gallons is assigned to kitchen wastewater flows. It
is my understanding that there will be people only on Sundays, and no people on-site the
remaining days of the week.
2. It is my understanding the total number of toilet fixtures for Phase I will consist of the
existing one toilet in the residential structure. Phase H of the new Temple is proposed to
have two toilets, two sinks and two drinking fountains. The Sewage Standards assign 150
gallons per toilet fixture/day(Worshiper/ Staff use), which is typically taken to
incorporate urinals, sinks and drinking fountains.
3. The total number of parking spaces for the new Temple will vary with the development
Phase and is listed below for each Phase. Ten gallons per day are assigned to each parking
stall.
11
Chesney Consulting
