August 21,2001 Page 2 Percolation Tests A percolation test was performed to demonstrate the capacity for soil percolation for use with an ori- site septic system_The depth of the test was determined by setting the casing adjacent to the first sufficiently . permeable material encountered(usually a thin sandy soil)found to a maximum depth of 21-feet. The casing used for the test was a 2-inch diameter,Ppipe with an open end on the top and bottom. Perforations were laced on the bottom 1 foot of the pipe. 2 inches of ea vel"was laced in the P PP ( } P P bottom of the hole,the casing was installed,and one(1) foot of"pea gravel"was backfilled inthe annular -space. A one (l).hour percolation test conducted on August 14 and 17,2001 .in accordance with the requirements of'SJC PHS-EHD. The placement of the test was in a'location that could be used fora future septic system. The percolation test conducted on August 14,2001 was observed by Larry Qodinho'and the test conducted on August 17, 2001 was observed by Steven Shih of SJC PHS-EHD. .An electric well sounder was used to measure the,water drop over an minimum interval of 10 minutes during the tests.The' units of the sounder are in feet with a 1/1 00-foot resolution. To-convert to inches,the value on the field sheet was multiplied by 12. ,The percolation test was'conducted for a period of.one hour. A satisfactory percolation rate was achieved for all the parcels.
