Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Subject: Explanation of Additional Tasks for Plume Delineation and Collection of
Samples for Analysis of Bioparameters for the Former Fayette
Manufacturing Company Site at 7675 W. Eleventh Street, Tracy,
California
Dear Mr. Rowe:
- - - , {' .' • ;jam
On behalf of -Dr. A.K. Glover, Smith_ Technology Corporation (formerly 'Smith
Environmental Technologies Corporation) is submitting this explanation of additional time
needed to complete the groundwater plume delineation Phase II work and collection of
samples for analysis for bioparameters. Dr. Glover is requesting this explanation of and
approval for the additional work required for reimbursement from the State UST Cleanup
Fund. The workplan, addendum and attachment to the workplan for the delineation of the
groundwater plume was approved by yourself on June 28,1996. Please review this letter
and if the tasks completed were satisfactory based on your observations of the subsurface
investigation conducted at the above referenced site on September 24 and October 2, k
1996, please sign where indicated and return to our office. _
Because of the following reasons, an additional day of field work was required on October
2, 1996 to complete the groundwater plume delineation to the satisfaction of San Joaquin
County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) and collection
of samples for analysis for bioparameters: the time required to collect the vapor, soil and
groundwater samples at each boring location was longer than anticipated, in particular the
time required to collect the vapor samples was longer than anticipated at several locations
due to tight soil;.the unexpected, encountering of floating product in:boring SB2; and the
extent of the groundwater plume was greater than anticipated. Specifically, an extra 1
hour per. boring was required in order to collect the samples needed to delineate the
plumes.and to analyze for bioparameters along with additional sampling time. In addition,
due to the larger extent of the groundwater plume, three additional borings were required
1260 Graphics Drive Modesto,CA 95351-1502 (209)579-2221 - Fax(209)579-2225
Engineering Consulting Remediation Construction
wA95122\It-rowe.doc
