Y III Page 3 September 19, 2000
Soil samples will be collected at no greater than five-foot intervals;with additional samples collected at
intervals of obvious contamination and at stratigraphic features of interest using field discretion.
Upon completion of the borehole drilling and collection of information, all boreholes were backfilled with
grout, placed from the bottom to the top of the borehole with a tremie line.
Reconnaissance Groundwater Sampling
Groundwater from each borehole will be sampled using push or,drill rods or hollow stem auger as.
temporary casing" in the uppermost aquifer. Depth to groundwater"nieasurements will be made to the
nearest one one-hundredth of one foot from existing grade, and also checked for the presence of
separate phase product. Please note that in uncased boreholes, water levels may not equilibrate due
to the length of time open. Each groundwater sample will be carefully collected with a clean disposable
bailer and poured into the appropriate laboratory prepared container with minimum cavitations and
headspace. Each water sample will be labeled, logged onto a chain of custody form, and placed in a
chilled ice chest on crushed ice.
Water Well Sampling
Domestic water for the lavatories is obtained through an agreement with Calaveras Cement from the
property owner to the west, which has an industrial well used in concrete batch operations. Wright's
scope of work included collection of water samples from the Calaveras cement well (Water Well),
located at 8181 11`r' Street oust east of the MSM building). It is our understanding that this well is not
used for drinking water at this time.
i
Water Well sampling wilt use the faucet near the wellhead and the existing pump in the well. The water
sample will be collected after first clearing the faucet for thirty seconds, and then filling the laboratory
prepared containers with minimum cavitations and headspace. ,The water sample will be labeled,
logged onto a chain of custody form, and placed in a chilled ice chest on crushed ice.
i
Chemical Analysis
Up to fifteen soil samples and five groundwater samples will be analyzed at Chromalab, Inc. State
Certified Analytical Laboratory from tha exploratory, borngs. These samples will be tested-for the
following; Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPHG) and Diesel (TPHD), Benzene, Toluene,
Ethyl benzene and Xylene (BTEX), Methyl-tert-butyl-ether (MTBE) and fuel oxygenates, 1,2
Dichlorethane and Ethylene Dibromide using EPA methods 3510/8015, 8020, and 8260. The analyses
will be performed on a "normal"turnaround (five to ten working days). The Water Well sample will be
tested for Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TEPH) and previously detected hydrocarbons
will be identified using EPA method 8015m.
d
it
