(Wright) has prepared this work plan for the Additional Site
Assessment Investigation at the above referenced site located at 8111 West Eleventh Street, Tracy,
CA (see Figure 1). The purpose of this work is to perform additional assessment of petroleum
contaminants in soil and groundwater near and around the former tank pit areas as required by the San
Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD) in their letters dated
August 16, 1999, December 27, 1999 and June 20,2000.
Background
Two underground storage tanks have been removed from the site, one 1,000-gallon diesel tank on
August 8, 1988 and one 1,000-gallon gasoline tank on June 23, 1994. Soil samples and groundwater
samples showed presence of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG), and Benzene,
Toluene, Ethyl benzene and Xylenes (BTEX). A water sample from the former gasoline storage tank
location appeared anomalous and a retest or explanation of sampling protocol for that sample
(sampled on July 28, 1994) was requested by PHS-EHD. Apparently this sampling/protocol issue was
never resolved to satisfaction and the PHS-EHD. The PHS-EHD then requested a vertical and
horizontal site assessment investigation to be performed on the site. A 2000-foot radius water well
survey was performed prior to the site investigation to locate wells registered with the State and the City
of Tracy. This information was sent to PHS-EHD in Wright's letter dated February 24. 2000.
Five exploratory borings were drilled at the site (Figure 1) on March 17, 2000. The borings revealed
degraded petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants in the vicinity of the former tank pits and in
groundwater just north of the pits. A groundwater gradient could not be calculated from uncased
borehole water levels; however, the distribution of contaminants suggests a northerly movement. A
sample from the water well at the property boundary showed Total Petroleum Hydrocart)ons as Diesel
at very low concentrations; these petroleum contaminants were deleted in volatile components and
some did not match the gasoline or diesel laboratory standards.
67 E. 10th Street • Tracy,CA 95376
209.833.0758 • Fax 209.832.5152
wright@inreach.com Lia #01501 A-B HazMat
websit http://home.inreach.comlwright
