Lb
Wright
` Environmental
Services, Inc.
May 10,2000 Construction ♦ Engineering • Remediation
Project No.4669
I;
M&M Builders Supply
t P. O. Box 1107
Tracy, CA 95378-1107
Attn.: Mr. Shawn Kelly
Re: Preliminary Site Assessment Investigation, `=
M&M Builders,8111 West 11th Street,Tracy,CA;
PHS EHD Site Code 1530;Wright Project No.4184.1
Dear Mr.Kelly,
Wright Environmental Services, Inc. (Wright) performed the Preliminary Site Assessment investigation r
at the above referenced site located at 8111 West Eleventh Street. Tracy, CA(see Figure 1). The purpose
of this work is to ascertain the depth to,-gw er, and identify suspected petroleum contaminants in
soil and groundwater near and around the former tank pit areas as required by the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS EHD) in their letters dated August 16, 1999
and December 29. 1999.
r4'
Background
Two underground storage tanks have been removed from the site;one 1,000-gallon diesel tank on August
8, 1988 and one 1,000-gallon gasoline tank on June 23, 1994. Soil samples and groundwater samples
showed the presence of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons(TPH)as Gasoline(TPHG), and Benzene,Toluene,
Ethylbenzene and Xylenes (BTEX). A water sample from the former gasoline tank location appeared
anomalous and a re-test or explanation of sampling protocol for that sample (sampled on July 28, 1994)
was requested by PHS EHD. Apparently this sampling/protocol issue was never resolved to satisfaction
and the PHS-EHD, who then requested a vertical and horizontal site assessment investigation to be
performed on the site. A 2000-foot radius water well survey was performed prior to the site investigation
to locate wells registered with the State of CA and the City of Tracy. This information was sent to PHS
EHD in Wright's letter dated February 24, 2000.
Field Methods
Exploratory Borings
Five exploratory borings were drilled at the site (Figure 1) on March 17, 2000. The borings were
positioned to ascertain distribution of the contaminants in site soil and groundwater. Drilling permits
were secured from the PHS EHD, and all utilities were cleared prior to doing the field work. The borings
were used to define the uppermost aquifer strata, and two selected borings advanced through the former
tank pits were advanced through the uppermost aquifer to the contact of. and into the underlying
confining strata of the uppermost aquifer.
67 E. 10th Street • Tracy,CA 95376
209.833.0758 .
