I
SNA WATERWORK CORP.
INDUSTRIES
May 8, 1991 'Y; j
MAY 9
MS. Laurie A. Cotulla fR°I9=N AL HEALTH
San Joaquin County Public Health Servi PU MIT15cRViC[_'S
Environmental Health Division
P.O. Box 2009 ,
Stockton, CA 95201
Re: CLOSURE RECOMMENDATION: Genstar-Western Stone
Products, 8181 W. "11th" St. , Tracy, CA (County
site code 1393)
Dear Ms. Coi,ulla: R,
I am writing in response to your letter of April 12, 1991 re-
questing additional subsurface investigation at the referenced
site.
if
Based on the results of soil and groundwater sampling and analy-
sis during tank removal, during the drilling of four groundwater
'
monitoring wells and over a one and one half
9 year period of
monitoring and sampling, we have concluded that this site meets
the established criteria for closure. Accordingly we must recom-
mend against acting on your directives to excavate soils and
install additional monitoring wells.
I
Please allow me to briefly address the specific points made in
your letter:
1) "Based on soil sample results obtained during the drilling of
monitoring well #4 and the depth to groundwater ( 12 feet) the
contaminated soil in the former location of tank #3 cannot be
left in place. Submit a soil remediation plan by May 15, 1991. "
As reported in our letter of June 22, 1990, the soil sample
collected and analyzed from monitoring well #4 (WS-SB-4) was from
a depth of 5. 5 feet below grade. Groundwater was found in this
well at a depth of 6 feet below grade. The hydrocarbons detected
in this soil sample, capillary P arY 9 therefore represent il. fringe con-
tamination. The levels of petroleum hydrocarbon cotstituents
detected in this sample (Table 1, attached) can only be cYstdc-
teri.zed as minimal., ie: TPHD s 2. 5 ppm, benzene = .0058 ppm,
ethylbenzene - .0067 ppm, and xylenes = 0076 ppm. Toluene. was
not detected in the sample. Moreover, the soil sample collected
from beneath tank #3 during removal did not contain detectable
concentrations of any analytes.
1710 MAIN STREET .
