-------- .. .. -----
k
r.
WaterWork
Groundwater. Sampling Protocol
Groundwater monitoring wells will be developed within 48 hours of
completion. Approximately 10 times the volume of water in the
casing will be withdrawn, if possible. If the aquifer is slow to
recharge, development will continue unti). recharge is too slow to
practically continue. All withdrawn groundwater will be stored
on-site in covered 55 gallon waste drums, unless permission is
granted by the appropriate regulatory agencies to discharge the
pumped groundwater to the ground surface.
F-K
Prior to arriving at the site, all sampling equipment will be '
washed with laboratory grade detergent, and rinsed twice with tap
water and once with deionized water. The sample washing
" procedure will be carried out on-site before sampling other
monitoring wells in cases where more than one monitoring well is
to be sampled.
Immediately prior to sampling, the depth to water (DTW) level in
the well will be recorded. The thickness of product on top of
theg roundwater, if present, will be measured using an interface
probe. The Procedure for conducting these monitorin
s are
w, presented in the Groundwater Monitoring Protocol attachment.
Approximately four times the .volume of water in the well casing
will be withdrawn by pumping or hand bailing immediately prior to
sampling. If the aquifer is slow to recharge, a smaller amount
of groundwater will be withdrawn in order to leave a sufficient
volume of water in the well to sample.
j m The grcundwater sample will be collected by lowering a Teflon
" sampler into the monitoring well and immediately transferring the
sample into a 40 ml volatile organic analysis (VOA) container.
The sample container will be filled completely so that no head
space remains in the container. Duplicate samples will be
collected from each well sampled.
Immediately following sample collection, the samples will be
labeled and stored in an ice chest containing "blue ice" . The
labels will contain the following information: date, time,
project ID, sample ID, name of sampler and type of analysis. All
samples will be transported under chain of custody protocol to a
state certified laboratory.
To reduce the potential of cross-contamination, the Swells will be ;
sampled in order of increasing contamination based on previous
laboratory analysis, if available, or by field evidence of
visual/olfactory indications of contamination. In addition,
latex glover worn by the sampler and the nylon cord used to lower
the teflon sampler will be replaced between each well sampling,
