1
LJ
Geological Technics inc. Page 4
{ Interim Soil Investigation
Project No.750.2
October 2,2003
3.0 RESULTS OF INVESTIGATION
Summary analytical data tables are included in Appendix A. Laboratory Data Sheets are
included in Appendix C and borehole logs are included in Appendix B. The analytical
results and field observations are discussed below.
3.1 Soil Analytical Results
4+ In summary:
❑ All samples from SB-1 were non-detect for all analyzed constituents
❑ No observable contamination at any depth was noted in samples collected from SB-1
❑ Field samples from SB-2 collected between 5 and 35 feet bgs showed evidence of
contamination
❑ Five samples from SB-2 were sent to the Sherwood Labs Corporation for analyses the
i
results are as follows:
• SB-2 at 14.5 feet bgs: Elevated concentrations of BTEX, TPH-G and TBA
• SB-2 at 19.5 feet bgs: Detectable concentrations of BTEX and TPH-G
L • Samples collected from 34.5, 44.5 and 54.5 feet bgs were non-detect for all analyzed
constituents
❑. MTBE was non-detect in all soil samples.
3.2 Geology and Field Observations
The following section discusses the subjective field observations and geology documented
during.this investigation based on the interpretations of the field geologist.
' ❑ Top two feet of the site appears to be backfill materials comprised of gravel and sand
❑ A brown, poorly sorted, sand from 5 to 10 feet bgs overlies a dry, light brown, silt unit
between 10 and 20 feet bgs
. ❑ The geology consists of various layers of grey colored silt and sand from 20 to 30 feet
bgs
❑ The predominant geology between 30 and 45 feet bgs is comprised of a buff color,
I poorly sorted sand containing some clasts greater thanl centimeter in size
❑ Grey silt and sandy silt layers were noted between 43.5 and 50 feet bgs
❑ Sand characterizes the 50 to 55 foot interval — buff and well sorted at 50 feet bgs
i
grading down to brown and poorly sorted at 55 feet bgs
t
4.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
1 This investigation was an effort to determine the effectiveness of the Vapor Extraction
L System employed at the site. The following conclusions have been drawn from the data
generated from this site investigation work:
Lr'
i
1 '
t
f
