San Joaquin County Fire Chiefs' Association <br /> _. <br /> Above Ground Stationary Static Water Supply System <br /> i <br /> The San Joaquin County Fire Chiefs' Association has adapted the following guide <br /> for providing static stationary tirater supply when utilizing above ground tanks. f, <br /> 1. Tank capacity will be in accordance with San Joaquin County Ordinance No. I <br /> 3664, Section 41005, upon approval of the Fire Chief. <br /> Z. An automatic fill device installed so that at no time will the capacity of the <br /> tank drop more than 5 percent. ' <br /> 3. A sight tube installed for the purpose of visual inspection of water level in <br /> the tank, constructed with clear plastic tubing and having a shut-off valve <br /> at the lowest point for the purpose of maintenance. <br /> 4. Fill pipe installed to maintain capacity of tank. Fill pipe to be a minimum <br /> 2" protected P.V.C. Schedule 40 or galvanized iron pipe. <br /> 5. Tank shall be equipped with a venting system to eliminate the possibility <br /> of collapse. Vent to be a minimum of 6" diameter and protected to keep <br /> foreign matter from entering the tank. <br /> 6. Tank shall be installed in accordance with the Building Code and plans shall <br /> be approved by the Building Department. <br /> 7. Discharge from tank snail be a minimum of 6" with a gate valve locked in � <br /> I <br /> the open posidoa. <br /> 8. Discharge line shall be a minimum of 6" protected P.V.C. Schedule 80 or <br /> galvanized iron pipe. <br /> 9. Fire Department connection (FDC) shall be equipped with a 6" Butterfly <br /> Valve connected to a National Standard male threaded outlet with cap. <br /> Check with local fire agency to confirm outlet size. This connection may not <br /> exceed a distance of 150' from the tank. FDC may not be placed higher <br /> than 24" or lower than 15" from ground level. <br /> 10. Positioning and access of tank and fire department connection shall be <br /> determined prior to construction by the Fire Chief in accordance with the <br /> Uniform Fire Code. <br /> 11. When necessary according to location and traffic, barriers shall be required <br /> for the protection of the FDC or the tank or both. Barriers shall be a <br /> minin,l„n of 3” iron pipe and shall be cement filled. Barriers shall be <br /> buried to a depth of 24" below ground level and shall extend no further <br /> than 36" and no shorter than 24" above ground level. Barriers shall not be <br /> placed so as to hinder connection from the fire apparatus to the FDC. <br />
