Hazelton Ave. <br />Stockton, CA 95205 <br />Re: February 18 2021 Planning Commission Hearing re Use Permit No. PA - <br />1800316 (Hussein/Navu Farms) <br />Dear Chair Hamilton and Members of the Planning Commission: <br />This office represents U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Ahmad <br />Hussein, the applicant on the above -referenced project ("Project"). Through <br />this application, Mr. Hussein seeks a use permit to operate a small scale chicken <br />farm and animal processing facility in the AG -40 zone. <br />How the Applicant Came to this Project <br />This Project represents the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, following a lifetime <br />N service and determination by Mr. Hussein, Mr. Hussein's Grandfather was <br />brought to Fiji from India as an indentured servant (slave) to work the sugar <br />cane fields. He ultimately achieved freedom and began his own Fijian farming <br />operation near the town of Navu. Mr. Hussein's father continued the family <br />enterprise, allowing Mr. Hussein to spend his formative years growing up on a <br />farm and learning the ropes of agricultural operations. Seeking a better life for <br />his family, Mr. Hussein's parents sent him to northern California as a young teen <br />to live with relatives. <br />At the age of 18, Mr. Hussein, a 4.0 student in high school, enlisted in the <br />United States Army —working his way from the lowest rank to Command Sargent <br />Major (a non-commissioned officer holding the highest -rank of enlisted soldiers in <br />the military). After approximately 4 years of service he became a naturalized <br />United States citizen. In 2006, Mr. Hussein suffered the unexpected loss of his <br />wife — mother to their three children. Compounding this tragic blow, in 2007 Mr. <br />Hussein sustained substantial injuries from an improvised explosive device (IED) <br />while serving a tour of duty in Iraq.
