Hazelton Ave.
Stockton, CA 95205
Re: February 18 2021 Planning Commission Hearing re Use Permit No. PA -
1800316 (Hussein/Navu Farms)
Dear Chair Hamilton and Members of the Planning Commission:
This office represents U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Ahmad
Hussein, the applicant on the above -referenced project ("Project"). Through
this application, Mr. Hussein seeks a use permit to operate a small scale chicken
farm and animal processing facility in the AG -40 zone.
How the Applicant Came to this Project
This Project represents the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, following a lifetime
N service and determination by Mr. Hussein, Mr. Hussein's Grandfather was
brought to Fiji from India as an indentured servant (slave) to work the sugar
cane fields. He ultimately achieved freedom and began his own Fijian farming
operation near the town of Navu. Mr. Hussein's father continued the family
enterprise, allowing Mr. Hussein to spend his formative years growing up on a
farm and learning the ropes of agricultural operations. Seeking a better life for
his family, Mr. Hussein's parents sent him to northern California as a young teen
to live with relatives.
At the age of 18, Mr. Hussein, a 4.0 student in high school, enlisted in the
United States Army —working his way from the lowest rank to Command Sargent
Major (a non-commissioned officer holding the highest -rank of enlisted soldiers in
the military). After approximately 4 years of service he became a naturalized
United States citizen. In 2006, Mr. Hussein suffered the unexpected loss of his
wife — mother to their three children. Compounding this tragic blow, in 2007 Mr.
Hussein sustained substantial injuries from an improvised explosive device (IED)
while serving a tour of duty in Iraq. Hospitalized for three years while undergoing
multiple surgeries, Mr. Hussein ultimately retired from the Army. After three
P: 209-477-8171 1 F: 209477-2549 1 3031 W.
