Since no plans to
develop parcels 1G, 18, 20, and 22,exist,no extra,effort was made to locate-deeper sandy lenses
that would increase, the probability of achieving a satisfactoiy percolation rate. Mr. Estrada a
indicated this would satisfy the requirement of testing each parcel regardless of pass or fail. i
A percolation test was performed in each of the twenty-two (22)lots. The casing used for
'F the test was a.2-inch diameter P i e with an open en to "and bottom. Two(2)
inches of"pea graveP'was placed-in the bottom of the hole, the casing was installed, and one-(1)
foot of"pea gavel'was backfilled in the annr lar space.
Botha one(1)hour percolation test and a four'(4)hour percolation tests were utilized to
on October 6°'and 10'h, 2000 in aceordance.with the requirements of San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division: .The.placement ofthe:test'was in a location that could be used for
placement of a future septic system. The testing of each of the parcels.was observed by
`.Rodney Estrada, Senior registered Environmental Realth'Specialist -San Joaquin County }
Environmental Health Division. A satisfactory pereolatimit.rate was measured for each of the
Parcels and are suitable for conventional se tic stems with leach lines and seepage pits with the
exception of parcels-.18, 20, and 22(See Appendix).
An unsatisfactory pereolationrate was observed in three(3)'of the four small sized lots a
:F . discussed previously. If it becomes desirable at some point to obtain satisfactory percolation rates F
for-parcels 18,20, and 22,we believe this is possible with a deep percolation test set adjacent to a
permeable unit. _ .
VII.. 141TRATE.LOADING STUDY
A build.up of nitrates in the upper ground-water zones can cause a temporary blood
disorder in infants called methemoglobinemia(blue baby syndrome).
