SEPTIC SYSTEM OPERATIONAL PARAMETERS AND COMPONENTS
SSS§ 3.7. Discussion of efficient operation, disposal field longevity, and environmental protection
are based upon the environmental parameters discussed within this Report. Calculations and a
description of the wastewater management system structures to be constructed is as follows, and is
I
based upon the EHD Sewa&ee Standards.
SEPTIC TANK
F
Septic tanks store the accumulated sludge, scum and effluent(clear zone)volumes, which in turn affect
treatment of nitrogen within the tanks. 1
Detention Time Calculation:
Detention Time=2,000 gal total tank capacity x 0.90(l0%volume lost to sludge/scum accumulation)
1.5 (Peaking factor) x 1,250 MAX gals/day(ADF)
r85
Detention Time= 1.0 days. The minimum acceptable detention time is 1.0 day. However, given the fact
that assigning 10 gallons wastewater production per person is exorbitantly high, the maximum daily flow
that may occur on any given Saturday or Sunday may be closer to allowing two gallons for restroom use and
two gallons for each person for kitchen use for a total of 4 gallons per person x 125 people= 500 gallons.
Detention time thus equals 2.4 under this scenario and would be greater since there will be no flows during Cv
the week. Therefore, in my professional opinion, a 2,000 gallon septic tank is suitable for sufficient
detention time. This also allows for greater time for nitrogen decomposition, which was not introduced into
the nitrate loading calculations as a safety factor.
LEACHLINE REQUIREMENT EXAMPLE CALCULATION BASED ON SAN JOAQUIN
COUNTY SEWAGE STANDARDS FOR COMMERCIAL SEPTIC SYSTEMS:
Base Tank Capacity= 1,200 gals (always 1,200 gals). Since the greatest maximum daily flow will occur on
either weekend day at 1,250 gpd,the system must be adequate to manage these flows.
Leachline Equivalent Requirement= 1,200 gallons BTC+ 1,250 MAX ADF x 0.250 clay Soil Factor(SF)_
615 lineal feet of leachline(LFLL) required.
