Parts per million is amass ratio (mg perl06 mg). For example, the Nr (the resultant average
concentration of nitrate in wastewater recharge in ppm of NO3);was determined to be 13 ppm by the
Hantzsche-Finnemore Equation. This equals 13 milligrams of nitrate in 106 milligrams of water(one
liter). If this 13 ppm concentration is added to the same volume of water(1 x 106 milligrams) of the
concentration determined in the underlying aquifer the well water draws from, which was 16 ppm
N031 then the resultant concentration is now: 13 milligrams per liter+ 16 milligrams per liter= 29
milligrams in 2 x 10'milligrams (2 liters, or parts per 2 million) of water. Therefore, to convert back
to ppm, the numerator and denominator must be divided by 2 with the result of 14.5 milligrams
nitrate per 1 x 106 milligrams. On a mass ratio basis, there will be a dilution effect of the nitrate
concentration in the water table from the resultant recharge wastewater (Nr) as long as the well water
aquifer has a higher nitrate concentration than the recharge water (13 ppm NO3 recharge vs. 16 ppm
NO3 well water aquifer). Consequently, degradation of the waters of the State of California do not
occur that would be in violation of the Porter-Cologne Water Act.
f
V. LIMITATIONS
The findings, opinions and conclusions of this Report are based upon information from standard engineering
and analytical test procedures, contemporary scientific literature and agency consultations. Information used in
these Studies is deemed reliable by the sources from where it was obtained. Results of the percolation testing
should be assumed to only represent the subsurface conditions encountered in the specific area of testing and
not of the entire subject Parcel or other areas that may be allocated for future wastewater disposal.
This Report is based upon current scientific knowledge to assess factors which are extremely variable and
complex within the environment. Although there are several methods to predict environmental impact from a
septic system, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department Sewage Standards and requirements
have been employed for these purposes, and for this project. Therefore, no guarantee or warranty is expressed
or implied concerning any aspect of this investigation, or the prevention of environmental impact. This Report
is not to be used, in whole or in part, by any private or public entity for any subsequent studies or reporting on
the subject property without the expressed written consent of the author of these Studies.
The opportunity to provide this service is appreciated.
