Five gallons per day per seat is a commonly used factor for a church facility and was selected for this project. The estimated flow values discussed here should not be used for the design and sizing of the septic system. The design and sizing of the septic system should utilize the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department's On-Site Wastewater Disposal Standards which incorporate peak and surge flow factors. The estimates used in the On-Site Wastewater Disposal Standards may be greater than those discussed here. The nitrate as nitrogen (N) concentration of these uses is estimated to be 85-mg/L (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998). In addition to the church uses, the existin (hree-bedn room residece .Warsonage) is considered for the nitrate loading. We estimate a maximum use of 120 gallons per day per bedroom for the residence.
