November 19, 2004
NOA Project Number: E04107A
section for percolation test results. Generally speaking, sandy soils have much greater potential for
percolation than fine-grained and clayey soils.
m 6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION
6.1 Percolation Test Locations
F1
A site map in the locations of the percolation test holes is included as Plate 2 in the appendix
of this report.
6.2 Number of Percolation Tests
One shallow percolation test was conducted at the Site.
6.3 Boring Preparation and Presaturation
' A hand-auger was used to bore a 3.5-foot hole on October 20, 2004. A 1.5-inch diameter PVC pipe
with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the drop of water in the percolation test
boring. Approximately , '_were placed in the bottom of the open soil boring,
then the PVC pipe was installed on top of the gravel. A few inches of"pea gravel" were backfilled in
rhe annular space. Presaturation of the percolation test hole occurred on October 20, 2004. The
depth of water used to pre-soak was 12 inches above the bottom of the boring.
= 6.4 Condition of Borings After Presaturation
After the 24-hour soak period, the presaturated hole was found to be intact and-Jon October 21,
2004.
6.5 Percolation Test Procedure
A percolation test was conducted for the boring on October 21, 2004 in accordance with the
requirements of the EHD. A percolation test with a duration of one hour was performed for the
hole. The entire test was observed by Mr.Justin Hess, Registered Environmental Health Inspector,
i EHD.
1 Measurement of the water level during the percolation test was from a fixed reference point on the
PVC casing using an electric well sounder with an depth accuracy of 1/100th foot. All tabulated
, values on the field data sheet (appendix) are in decimal feet. After water drop was observed, the hole
was checked for refill. The refill level was approximately 0.5 ft (6 inches) of water above the bottom
level of the percolation test hole. The readings were taken approximately every 10 minutes for a
period of one hour.
S
F1
