REVISED-NITRATE LOADING CALCULATION PERMIT/SERVICES .
WEST VALLEY RV AND,SALES-
7890 W. ELEVENTH STREET,
TRACY, CALIFORNIA
Dear Mr. Day,
Per your request, this letter provides a revised nitrate loading calculation for the proposed
facility. Revised recommendations will follow based on the results of the nitrate loading
E, calculation and conversations with the-San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
(EHD).
We understand that Mr. Mike Huggins•of the EHD,has reviewed our Soil Suitability Nitrate .
Loading Study report dated June 11,2003 and.has found it inadequate. He believes the proposed
project may cause a build up of nitrates in the ground water and disagrees with several of the
assumptions used in the nitrate loading calculation:
Mr. Huggins indicated that the proposed replacement of high flow plumbing with low flow ,
t plumbi]Ig recommended in our report is not an acceptable option for'mitigation. He also
mentioned that the estimated flow rates for determining average daily flow should come from the
San Joaquin County Sewage Standards, not any other published material as presented in our
report. Though these points are, arguable in our opinion, it may be in the project's best interest to
upgrade the septic system and water well.
f
'We understand other commercial development, occurring in the area are faced.with similar
challenges regarding the site approval process. Essentially, there is a significant nitrate
contamination in the shallow ground water aquifer below parts of Tracy and new development
must address these issues prior to7 site approval.
Mr. Huggins indicated to our office that he believes the site may be.suitable for development
( utilizing a mounded disposal field. A mounded septic, system will essentially promote
r evaporation of wastewater moisture generated from the facility, thus minimizing the impact to
E ,
._' _ .. ♦gS pts* -
