June 11 2003
Job Number:LG03-137
Page 8
The formula, assumptions and calculations used for the analysis are shown on"Plates 4and 5. The '
units of nitrate used in the mass.balance equation are nitrate-N whose maximum drinking water
contaminate level.is 1.0 mg/L. These variables are discussed next.
6.2 Quantity and Qgality of Septic System Effluent
We understand that the numbers.both of office employees and customers will be relatively low
due.to the-nature of the RV sales. Office workers are expected to total 1; working an eight-hour
shift Monday through Saturday. Customers are estimated to be five(5)per.day or less for an -.
eight.-hour day, Monday through Saturday.
The various classes of employeesand customers are delineated in the table below.
Table 6.
Total estimated average daily flow rate of the septic system.
Line Total
User Category Use Rate Scale
ork Week Persons " ` 'allda J erson Factor*** allda
Office Staff 13-* 617 11.1 C
_ (Mon-Sat) -3
Customers(Mon-Sat) 5 7** 6/7 7.3 2{
Grand Total: 18.4
*
From Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998!
# Assume low now toilet fixture, 1.7 gallons per-flush per visit. ,
*** Scale factor to account for different work weeks;6/7 is a six-day week..
The wastewater generated by the facility is essentially from the toilet. Well water will supply,
pp Y.
the initial water supply-arid will contain some nitrate in it,as well. An estimate of the
concentration of total nitrogen from this source is estimated to range between 20-80 nig/L-N with
r a typical average of 35 mg/L N (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998).. This estimate-for a residential
home which is assumed to be similar to a small business with few employees and customers..
The well.water contains about 6. ng/L-N(or'76 mg/L as NO3)nitrate which should be
factored into the use. The value of 35 mg/L-N was assumed to reflect the average concentration
of the total nitrogen in the waste water for the proposed project. To estimate the affect of the
- added nitrate in the well water, the values were simply added together-, 35 mg/L-N added to 16.8
mg/L-N(76 mg/L,as'NO3). The estimated Nw value is 51.8 mg/L-N."
' o
