Joe Day }.
July 17 2003
Page 3
Based on the assumptions and limitations of the nitrate loading calculation;our office believes
the sit(;is suitable for use with a-mounded septic system. 'Without a mounded septic system, the ,
site could potentially cause a buildup of nitrates in the shallow:ground water zone above.10
mg/L-N over the long term. A mounded septic system by design promotes evaporation and plant
transpiration of the waste water. This should greatly minimize the impact'to ground water. As
ff mentioned earlier, ibe water-well:should be repaired or replaced.
Since the existing septic tank was inspected and found.to be in good condition, we believe the
tank could be reused. The raised bed would need to be located.in another part of the site
according to EHD. The system should be'sized for an equivalent l bedroom home{2,000 sf bed
area} according to the San Joaquin County Sewage Standards section 8.9. As an option,we
believe;a pump package could be installed within the second compartrnenf,of the septic tank in
place of the 800 gallon lift station and pump {section 8:9.3.b, Sewage Standards): A low flow'
-pump resulting in minimal-drawdown in the tank would be preferable over a high flow.type
pump. This would require special approval from the EHD.
Our,professional services were performed, our findings obtained and'our conclusions ro osed
g p p
in accordance with generally accepted engineering principles and practices.
