Our percolation tests were performed in accordance with San Joaquin County Department of
Environmental Health regulations. The Field Test Data Sheets with the percolation test results
can be found in the Appendix. The percolation test results indicate failing (non-existent) perc
rates for the shallow 42 inch borings and perc rates of approximately 11 min/in for the two
deep borings. At the start of the deep tests, the six inches of water seeped away within 30
min. However, as can be noted, the rates quickly became slower as both the soil micropores
and macropores became saturated. A discussion of these rates and recommendations will
follow in the Conclusions section of this report.
[5] LOCAL GROUNDWATER AND SURFACE WATER INFORMATION
The groundwater, or the zone of saturation is located approximately 90 ft below grade
according to maps published by the Flood Control District. There was no evidence of a
perched water table condition during our exploratory boring procedures. Although the Lone
Tree Creek is in the proximity of possible septic system influence, it is doubtful that surface
water degradation could arise from septic systems on the subject property. If the subject site
is developed in the future with high density housing with septic systems, then a further study
for potential impact should be performed.
A water sample was drawn from the on-site domestic well that services both residences for
analyses of nitrates, EDB and DBCP. The nitrate concentration is 10 mg/1 (ppm) which is
relatively low. Both EDB and DBCP which are non-use soil fumigants are non-detect (ND).
- The defunct on-site well that was to be abandoned has been closed-in per County procedures
and regulations. It is our understanding that Hector Castro, R.S. observed this procedure.
[6] CONCLUSIONS
The percolation rates for the subject property illustrate that sumps or preferably seepage pits
- will have to be utilized for any future septic systems on the subject property.
