The chamber
i also promotes passive Venting which prov'ides'abbridarii oxygen which enhances nitrification.
The chamber-and carbon flter, vents will,promote-an aerobic environment for nitrification of the
dosed effluent "Within the bottom of the trench, anaerobic processes, supplemented by
cellulose,"will enhance denitrification. The=fine=grained soils will slow the percolation of the
effluent allowing-some.moisture-to accumulate on.the bottom of.the_trench.As indicated, we
are also recommending four (4) inches-of loose compost soil-be placed on-the bottom of the
four (4) trenchevThe wood additive should,be evenly mixed within the sand at a,ratio of about
20 percent by volume. Together, the compost and wood additive, along with naturally
occurring carbon.inthe wastewater flow will provide an ample carbon source for denitrification.
A`duplex pumping systerhJs required by the EHD for commercial septic systems. We
recommend an Orenco P3005 (30 gpm) pump package with time dosing panel. Please refer to
the drawing for additional details and the pump curve attachment for the pump selection
information.
Monitoring
The'San Joaquin County:EHD requires initial monitoring on all commercial engineered septic
systems for nitrate reduction. This system will require twelve (12) monitoring visits which may
occur.Aover.one year. Several monitoring parameters will be required:
- Note the water meter reading.
- Inspect the overall septic system condition.
- Measure fluid level in all four (4) 2-inch dia. monitoring ports
- Draw fluid in four monitoring ports for trenches 1 to 4 to make one (1) composite
and test for nitrate and ammonia.
- Extract effluent from one (1) lysimeter port and test for nitrate and ammonia.
- Extract effluent from septic tank clear water compartment and test for total nitrogen
and alkalinity.
- Prepare update letter every 6 visits followed by a final report with recommendations
after 12 visits to be submitted to the EHD.
902 Industrial Way•Lodi,CA 95240-209.367.3 701•Fax 209.369.4228
50 Goldenland Cr.,Suite 100 •Sacramento,CA 95834.916.928.4690•Fax 916.928.4697 "04
1190 Burnett Ave.,Suite A•Concord,CA 94520.925.609.7224•Fax 925.609.6324
80 N.
